But regardless of the interviewer’s answer the reality is always going to be resentment. How dare this guy tell us how to code! So what if he has four times as much experience!
The absolutely hopeless one is legibility; my code is almost obsessive-compulsively neat with tons of vertical alignment. Nobody has ever said it was hard to read, but nearly everyone tells me, usually through clenched teeth, that they are not going to emulate it. They identify with jagged clutter. I wouldn’t bring that up in an interview; I have no more patience for calling it “preferences.”
I would bring up mid-function returns. That was settled in my mind over 25 years ago back when monitors were still 80-column character mode.
