Thanks for one of a very few thoughtful answers I’ve gotten here. You make a lot of sense and you write well. I’m glad someone else noticed the mirrored inflexibility in the BBs and I agree that it’s unhelpful; they’re in their trench, all right. It’s BernieOrBust and if it’s Bust they’re going open-eyed right into it.
Personally, it’s my fight too in one way, I’m an American and I care about some things American. I was once a true believer; I grew up in Virginia, visited the Continental Congress reconstruction, delivered Patrick Henry’s speech from the same spot he did centuries before; the Monitor and the Merrimac had their inconclusive battle off the shore I walked my dogs by every day.
I watched the moon landing live and teared up with pride; I believed we were good. Of course I don’t believe that anymore. Lt. Calley never went to prison, much less before a firing squad.
But when I see the MAGA crowds I would gladly trade the survival of even one invertebrate animal species for the whole filthy lot of them. I see no chance whatever of reaching people like that, they are gone, beyond humanity, beyond morals or ethics, crazed with hate.
On the other hand, it’s not so much my fight anymore; Palin was the last straw for me and I left in 2010. I’ve lived in Vietnam close to ten years now and I miss pancakes more than I miss my countrymen.
I read the weird scolds from the BBs in these comments, people who’ve clearly ether not read a word I wrote past a less-than-full-throated Bernieisn or who read it and couldn’t process it. So they fall back on the same rotating arguments they’ve been making for the last three years, about Her.
Yes we are in the battle of our lives but I think with rising seas and escalating droughts we’ve already lost.
I do know I’m not coming back.
