I’ve worked with engineers on a number of projects; electrical and mechanical engineers. My father was an engineer, a naval architect.

Software development is farther from engineering than economics is from science.

Engineers don’t cultivate “personal blueprint styles” whose goal is illegibility for everyone else. Engineers don’t adopt collaborative styles that impede their ability to focus.

Engineers don’t follow fads, or invent new and imprecise nomenclature like “stories” and “technical debt.”

And we’re losing ground.
