It’s really tough here; Vietnamese don’t understand people from their own country if they don’t make an effort, and nobody expects a foreigner to speak their language so they don’t make that effort unless they know me. I thought there was something wrong with my pronunciation. There isn’t.
As for being hung up, tell that to all those people who called tech support and got furious when they heard an Indian accent. Most of them didn’t have the same issue with other foreign accents. That shift of stressed syllable drives us nuts.
