I'm not sure where you get the idea I didn't address him directly, but I did, and many times. I don't like going to managers, I do it most reluctantly, I've worked at Microsoft where screwing up coworkers is actively encouraged and I don't like it one bit.
When L changed those status codes I messaged him about why; as so many times before, he didn't answer. I was not brusque or dismissive in these questions, in fact at one point I took the trouble to write several pages about the awkward (and wrong) branch structure and his response was to paste two irrelevant lines from the Git docs. He didn't even bother writing a word, and I had spent about 40 minutes writing to him.
It wasn't me being a jerk.
