I was a manager for a few weeks and I absolutely hated it. I agonized about being fair, it kept me awake nights, and in retrospect I should have fired them all. That would have bothered me more. Not for me.
Right now I am doing technical writing, not coding, I only work remotely and that has dried up a lot because of those dumb “methodology” things; on the other hand I got a tech writing gig in 48 hours after applying.I don’t plan to stay away from coding forever, but I’m not relocating and even if I lived across the street from the company I wouldn’t last a week with daily scrums, “stories” and “technical debt,” my tolerance for bullshit it very low and my tolerance for interruption even lower. The “methodologies” are very big on both.
Sure there’s a place for managers, though I have had very few good ones, but it’s not for me.
