I hate scrum, I hate the whole methodologies thing. And yes “hate” is the word I meant.

Methodologies as far as I can see add absolutely nothing. Except meetings, lots of meetings. Meetings of the entire group. Recurring meetings, never canceled, never letting out early.

Meetings are interruptions; meetings are almost always wastes of time. If I can stay awake I’ve done the best I can do. The last time I did this horseshit was 2010, long before WFH. They chose to hold the “morning standup” at 8:30 AM; before this I had gotten in at 10:00 AM after a half-hour drive. To arrive in time for this utterly pointless and ceremonial meeting I had to leave at 7:00 and drive for 90 mind-numbing minutes in Seattle traffic, starting my day weary and angry. I couldn’t bill that extra hour (though sometimes I did).

My work didn’t depend on anyone else’s, nobody’s work depended on mine.

I can understand a project on tight deadline with dependencies between components needing to meet more than weekly to keep things on track. Whoever thought up recurring meetings “just because” deserves a mob beating.
