I did not read your article because your use of the word “queer” is as offensive as “nigger.”

If you want to marginalize yourself that’s your business but that word remains one of the most vile slurs in English and the bullshit claims of its “reclamation” are nothing more than excuses to continue with the “in your face” offensive behavior that delayed our political progress for so many decades.

I’m a gay man. Gay, not “LGBTQIA[this space reserved].” I’m not ashamed of that, nor am I proud of it. I certainly don’t identify with any community that sanctifies offensive immaturity or impulsiveness and that some historical figures may have also been gay is no more significant to me than if they’d been left-handed.

Being gay is part of normal human variation and anyone who elevates it to a pivotal distinction is a bigot, whether gay or religious conservative.

We’re as good as anyone else. We’re not “queer.”
