I am reminded of Robert Duvall’s line in Tender Mercies: “I don’t trust happiness.” Let yourself feel happy and you’re sticking your head out so someone can knock it off.

Or Wm. S. Burroughs’ line “life, liberty, and the pursuit of any tolerable condition whatsoever.” That’s where I am.

My first Medium dollar for my TDD article had me on cloud nine all day (yes, $1). I did 60 situps on incline for the first time in almost a year, I took stairs two at a time at my school (I teach ESL in Vietnam).

Then that night I dreamed about some of my beloved parrots who have died and it was gone. I awoke choking back sobs. I loved them so much.

I don’t mean to throw water on your article, it is deeply wise and I know from private conversations that you are possessed of a goodness rare in this demented slaughterhouse that is our world.
