Let me explain why all that matters — because I’d bet if you’re a white liberal, you’re probably rolling your eyes right now, getting mad at me, about to splutter, “but all that’s just semantics!! What does it matter what we call stuff?!” Nothing, it turns out, matters more, because words which become concepts and ideas and laws and norm…
Bless you for this.
I work in software where nomenclature is disintegrating even faster than in common speech, where “reach out” has replaced “contact” and “moving forward” has replaced “proceeding.”
It sure as shit does matter what we “call stuff.” Returning to a Permian heat balance is not “climate change.”
And in software unfinished work is exactly that, calling it “technical debt” may sound intelligent but it’s inaccurate and uninformative.
Never was a fan of Klein while he was at Washington Post, where I blog. I always saw him as a mediocrity.
What scares me though is that failed coups are often followed by successful ones.
